Prime Minister, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized that JVP along with the opposition gave a good opportunity to the Government to prove its strength to the country and people.

The opposition should be praised for paving the way for the Government, pointed out, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe.

He was speaking at a special meeting held at Temple Trees with a group of Ministers on Thursday ( 11) after defeating the No-confidence motion, brought by the opposition in Parliament.

119 votes were against the No-confidence motion while 92 voted in favor and the Government was able to defeat it by a majority of 27 votes.

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe further stated in this meeting with Ministers of United National Front.

“This No-confidence motion, presented by the opposition, gave the opportunity for the Government to reconfirm the political strength of it to the country and people. This belief was important in the wake of the suicide attack on Easter Sunday. As the Government, we should be thankful to the opposition."

Hesha Withanage and Chaminda Wijesiri, backbenchers of Parliament, drawing the attention of Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to another issue, stated.

“The President and the opposition are very scared over the land bill to transfer the ownership of government lands to those who have been living in these lands for Ten years. Two groups affiliated to the People's Alliance of Sri Lanka have filed court cases against this land bill”

The same group that gave the permanent ownership of the Army Headquarters land to China to build Shangri La Hotel, half of the ownership of Port City to China and Fifteen Thousand acres of land to Doll Company of America, to grow crops including Banana, is opposing the distribution of lands for One Million landless people.

Prime Minister , Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe responding to this issue stated…

“This land bill, to transfer the ownership of lands to these helpless people, was stagnated for Two years in the Cabinet. When we got this bill passed with difficulties and gazetted, Two parties had filed cases in courts against the bill. We have to get on to streets with these people against these groups. They oppose this project due to the fear that the Government will gain popularity”

Meanwhile, the United National Front points out that it defeated the No-confidence motion against the Government and confirmed its victory in the 2020 presidential election.
